Human rights based approach HRBA is about empowering people to know and claim their rights and increasing the ability and accountability of individuals and institutions who are responsible for respecting, protecting and fulfilling rights.
This means giving people greater opportunities to participate in shaping the decisions that impact on their human rights.
It also means increasing the ability of those with responsibility for fulfilling rights to recognize and know how to respect those rights, and make sure they can be held to account.
A human rights based approach is about ensuring that both the standards and the principles of human rights are integrated into policymaking as well as the day to day running of organizations.
Course Objectives
The HRBA Programming course therefore aims at building the necessary skills to enable development programmers to design interventions
that results into fulfillments of rights - skills in developing programs that empower people living in poverty and exclusion to know, assert and enjoy their rights.
Course Content
To use human rights principles in programming and designing development interventions
To facilitate communities to use human rights principles to effectively claim and enjoy their rights.
Planning HRBA work - Identifying, analyzing and contextualizing the violation, abuse and denial of human rights
Designing HRBA interventions - Intervening to promote and protect human rights – Strategies to promote and protect human rights
Monitoring and evaluating the interventions aimed at promoting and protecting human rights
Target Group
The course aims at benefiting managers and programme staff of CSO, programme Donor agencies, planning staff of government agencies at all levels.
