MDF - Eastern and Southern Africa is a training institute that focuses on development of management capacities in the development and relief sector. We have been offering open subscription courses since our establishment in Arusha in 2003.

Project and Programme Management Training

Project/programme managers are often confronted with operational management challenges. An excellent command of both technical and personal skills is critical for ensuring interventions are well defined and managed, monitored and evaluated effectively. This two week course deals with a comprehensive set of technical management skills, where you learn to define project objectives and carry out sound planning as well as set indicators to measure project progress and outcomes.

Interpersonal skills and activities required for effective project management are highlighted and practiced throughout the course.

Course objectives

This course will enable you to

• take a systematic approach towards programme/project design and management in consultation and joint implementation with multiple stakeholders (using theory of change and Logical Framework approaches)

• design and implement monitoring systems that link progress at project and programme levels

• evaluate the outcome and impact of your projects

• recognise and demonstrate management skills in order to lead a motivated team

• communicate effectively with stakeholders;

• assure the embedding of your project’s intervention in its environment.

Week 1

• tasks and roles of the manager

• trends in Development &MfDr

• theory of change

• intervention logic: developing a logical framework

• External Factors & risk assessment

• communication skills

• organizational Diagnosis

Week 2

• Designing a results-based monitoring system

• Leadership styles

• conflict management and negotiation

• Effective meetings

• teamwork &teambuilding

• Evaluations: steps and criteria

• terms of reference for evaluation

Course fee: Euro 1525.

Conference pack including lunch Euro 25. MDF ESA can arrange for accommodation at the venue if requested.
